My first post! Collector's Cocoa Cake isn't exactly what I would call "dinner fare," but it looks and smells delicious! I am making this cake for my daughter's birthday. It will go with a homemade butter cream frosting.
3/4 cup butter or margarine
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups flour
3/4 cups Hershey's Cocoa
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt. (I leave this out)
1 1/3 cup water
Heat oven to 350 bake. Grease and flour two 8 or 9 inch round baking pans. (I used a rectangular pan) In large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat 1 minute on medium speed. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; add alternately with water to creamed mixture, beating after each addition. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake 35-40 minutes for 8 inch, and 30 - 35 minutes for 9 inch pans. (more for rectangular pans) Once wooden pick is inserted and comes out clean, cool 10 minutes before removing from pans. Cool completely before frosting.
