Garlic Knots

Tonight's dinner was spaghetti bolognese.  (one of my kids won't eat meatballs, but will eat bolognese sauce, go figure)  I made 12 rolls, and they were gone by the end of supper.  Made of a basic pizza dough,  these are quick to prepare, due to the short time rising time.  Simply delectable!

Makes 12

1  1/2 cup warm water (105-115 degrees)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon yeast
3  1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt

Garlic Spread:

1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon parsley

  • Mix together water, sugar and yeast.  Let sit for 5 minutes
  • Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture
  • Mix until smooth
  • Place in greased bowl
  • Let rise for 10 minutes  (I placed the towel covered glass bowl in a 190 degree heated oven)
  • On a clean surface, spread out flour
  • Roll out dough to half an inch thick, and 8 to 10 inches in length (rectangle)
  • Using a pizza cutter, cut 12 even strips
  • Tie each strip into a knot and place on a greased baking sheet
  • Let rise for an additional 10 minutes
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes  (until lightly browned on top and bottom)
  • While rolls are baking, melt butter on top of the stove.  Mix garlic powder and parsley
  • Once rolls are out of the oven,  brush butter mixture on top and serve warm
